Thiyagarajan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), is one such educator. His professional life — spanning teaching, research, innovation and mentorship — is a model of dedication and practical impact.

Academic foundation and ongoing learning

Mr. Thiyagarajan built a solid academic foundation with a B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an M.E. in Power Electronics and Drives. Demonstrating a continuous drive for knowledge, he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Anna University. This academic preparation underpins his work in power electronics, renewable energy systems, electrical machines and control systems.

Research, publications and scholarly contributions

As a researcher and author, he has published more than 17 papers in peer-reviewed, UGC-CARE and Scopus-indexed journals, and has presented 40+ technical papers at national and international conferences. His scholarly contributions include book chapters such as “Energy Auditing and Management Techniques: Strategies for Efficiency and Sustainability” (Meck Teck Research Foundation Publishing, 2025) and “Energy Harvesting: Converting Waste Energy into Usable Power” (SAN International Scientific Publications, 2024). His paper on solar energy utilization received the Best Paper Presentation Award at ICETIMS-2025.

Innovation and patents

Beyond publications, Mr. Thiyagarajan has pursued practical innovation that addresses real-world problems. His published patents include a Precision Farming System using AI-Powered Crop Monitoring and an IoT Integrated System for Real-time Health Monitoring and Emergency Alert. These inventions reflect his focus on applying technology to agriculture and healthcare for measurable societal benefit.

Committed to professional growth and collaboration, he holds memberships in several respected organisations: Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), Instrument Society of India (ISOI) and The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA); Member of IEEE and IAENG (Hong Kong); and Life Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India). These affiliations strengthen his network for research and industry interaction.

Workshops, events and bridging academia–industry

Mr. Thiyagarajan has organized and delivered numerous practical programs that connect students with industry-relevant skills. Notable events he led include hands-on workshops on PLC & SCADA, Solar PV design, industrial safety and automation. He coordinated Anna University approved FDTPs such as the FDTP on Electrical Machines (2017) and participated in the CSIR-sponsored workshop on Electric Vehicles & Sustainability (2020). In 2023 he contributed to the AICTE-IIC impact lecture series focusing on innovation and startups.

Mentoring young innovators

A passionate mentor, he has guided over 30 student projects, several of which gained national recognition. His mentoring roles include the TANGEDCO Energy Ambassador Program (2017), the Naan Mudhalvan Hackathon (2023), and the Mega Tinkering Activity at Atal Tinkering Labs (Children’s Day, 14 Nov 2022). Through these efforts he has helped students develop practical prototypes, secure visibility, and make industry connections.

Awards and recognition

Recognition has followed his consistent efforts. Among his honours are the Faculty Excellence Award — Creative and Innovative from SNS Group of Institutions (December 2024), the Best Teacher Award from Research India Foundation, Kolkata (October 2023), and the Best Paper Presentation Award at ICETIMS-2025.
