Break the bias: Chinnmaye Praveen

It is time to question our minds. What does break the bias mean? Is it a call to stand together, an excuse for our shortfall, A reason to hype, or the situation to create a better place…As we all agree, the universe is a stage saturated with multifariousness, hues, and cries; one needs to walk with head held high, to choose the challenge to break the bias. Regardless of gender parity, one needs to create moments where equality and diversity should be supported for one’s own sake.
Small acts of men and women can help build a better society, just by examining the words we use, the way we respond, the situations we create, and the imagery we show towards each other.
Breaking the bias is a behavioral change which takes its own pace, we need to be patient meanwhile trying to change the way we look around, heightening the awareness in upbringing younger ones with grounded cultural values not losing the built in attributes such as compassion, creative, working out compromises, dealing with kindness and selfless caring in women and at same time induce resistance, respect, responsibility, resilience in men to create the society where differences are valued and celebrated unpacking the embedded assumption ” Right to women mean loss of Right to men”.
Dismantling stereotypes for an equal future need not be a paradox in public attitudes nor an egalitarian view, revamp the landscape of thinking that makes harmful and hurtful biases,s which are influenced by social and cultural contexts. There is no biological commandment that says women are natural homemakers and men are the natural hunters. Time to move on from using biology as an excuse and focus on improving social and cultural systems that ensure dignity and rights irrespective of gender.
None of the approaches alone will help us overcome bias, even collectively, they will work only if we accept, we have bias and commit to diligent self-awareness. Individually, we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions all day, every day. Acknowledging that systematic and structural inequalities create the boundless strength to create a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive ….Let us not strive for power over each other rather build power over self to accept the similarities and respect the differences.
