Banshidhar Andola, born on January 1, 1961, in the remote village of Jamtola, District Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand (India), has dedicated his life to the noble cause of education. His remarkable journey—from a small village school to becoming a Principal and an educational innovator—stands as a testament to perseverance, vision, and the transformative power of learning.
He began his education at the Government Primary School in Rugdi and later pursued higher studies, earning a B.Sc., M.Sc., and B.Ed. from Kumaun University, Almora (1981–1984). In December 1985, he started his teaching career at Government Higher Secondary School, Bhulyuta (Almora), before transferring to Government Inter College, Bankot (Pithoragarh). Over the years, he served as Lecturer in Government Inter Colleges of Munsyari and Chaubati.
A defining moment in his career came in 1995, when he joined the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Almora. For nearly two decades, he spearheaded pioneering educational reforms, shaping not only teachers but also generations of learners.
Over 38 years of service—divided equally between DIET and secondary schools—Mr. Andola introduced a range of innovations that left a lasting impact.
Innovations at DIET
- Workshops for stakeholders – Organized monthly two-day workshops for teachers and leaders, creating laminated practice cards and monitoring classroom use.
- Community collaboration – Promoted constructivist classrooms through meetings with teachers and village leaders.
- Quiz culture – Introduced quiz competitions at multiple levels in Mathematics, Science, Languages, and Social Science.
- Action research – Conducted and published evidence-based classroom improvement studies.

Continuing the Mission
Even after retirement, Mr. Andola’s passion for education remains undimmed. He authored the book Enhancing Quality in Education, where he shared his vision and practical strategies. He proposed the PEA Model, emphasizing Peer group learning, Exercises, and Activities as key drivers of child development.
